In depth. 03

How Astrove fits the insurance industry.

The insurance industry has digitised, but large parts of the customer-service flow are still manual. Customers compare insurance (car, home, travel, health, life, accident) in the evening and at weekends, but premium quotes and policy adjustments often require a phone call with an adviser during office hours. Claims go through forms with 1–2 days of response time before a case is opened. The result is inefficient customer service and frustrated customers.

Astrove’s AI chatbot addresses this with a structured approach. For premium quotes the bot can collect the necessary details through conversation (vehicle type, engine, registration, age, address for car; property type, size, age, location for home; destination, duration, cover for travel) and give an indicative premium based on your tariff engine. For binding quotes it escalates to an authorised adviser — deliberately, because insurance distribution rules require it.

Claims intake is a high-volume flow we automate. The bot collects the necessary details through conversation: policy number (or e-ID authentication), type of claim (vehicle damage, water damage, theft, fire), date, extent, contact details, photos. A case is created directly in your claims-handling system with a case number, and the customer gets a confirmation by email or SMS. For simple claims within fixed amount limits we can set up automatic approval if you want it.

For the financial sector, compliance is critical. We built Astrove for insurance distribution rules (IDD), national financial regulations and the GDPR. Every conversation is logged with a timestamp, customer reference (when authenticated), and the full message history for audit. Sensitive details (national ID numbers, policy numbers, health data for life and illness cover) are automatically masked in the conversation log via our redaction policy. The data lives in your own tenant on European servers in Germany, is encrypted in transit and at rest, and conversations are never used to train general models. We provide a data-processing agreement tailored to the insurance sector before any contract is signed. Implementation takes 1–4 weeks depending on integration complexity.

FAQ. 04

What is the need for insurance companies?+

Customers compare insurance (car, home, travel, health, life), check premiums, report claims and wonder about policy terms — outside office hours. Much of the first-line work is repetitive: what is the difference between comprehensive and third-party cover, what is covered in a water-damage claim, how do I report a theft. A chatbot can handle much of this 24/7 while complicated cases are escalated to an adviser.

Can the chatbot calculate premiums?+

For standard products (car, home, travel) the bot can collect the necessary details (vehicle type, age, address, level of cover) and give an indicative premium based on your tariff engine. Binding quotes often require authorised advice — the bot does the first rough estimate and escalates for the final quote.

Can the bot take claims reports?+

Yes, for the first-line process. The bot collects the necessary details (policy number or e-ID login, type of claim, date, extent, photos), creates a case in your claims-handling system, and gives the customer a case number. Claims assessment and any payout are done by a human. For simple claims within fixed limits we can set up automatic approval.

What about the supervisory authority and advice?+

Insurance distribution rules (the EU IDD and national law) set strict requirements for who can give insurance advice. The bot never gives concrete insurance recommendations or product assessments — it provides information, calculates indicative premiums, and escalates to an authorised adviser for concrete cases. A clear architectural separation between information and advice.

What about e-ID authentication?+

For authenticated customers — via national e-ID schemes (such as BankID, MitID or itsme) or your own login — the bot can give account-specific information: active policies, premium history, claims history, next renewal date. We integrate with your customer platform via OAuth or a custom REST API. Sensitive details (national ID numbers, policy numbers) are automatically masked in the conversation log.

What does it cost for an insurance company?+

The chatbot module is €0/month — you pay only for the AI usage that actually happens, typically a few cents per customer conversation, on prepaid credit. Standard setup via Google Tag Manager is free. If you need special integrations (e-ID integration, tariff-engine connection, and a claims-handling system), we quote them concretely up front — you get a firm number, not a “from” price.
